An editor over at Cars.com, driving between Chicago and Detroit, noticed a bright blue 2010 Chevy Camaro RS just hanging out at a gas station outside of the Motor City. We're assuming the manufacturer-plated car is probably either an early pre-production model or from GM's captive test fleet. Either that or a cash-strapped GM decided to save money by not advertising the car's release and there are a bunch of them sitting at Chevy dealerships where they'll likely never be discovered. 2010 Hennessey HPE700 Camaro

Hennessey Performance Engineering, the fine folks behind the Venom GT Supercar and other insanely fast autos, have unveiled their latest creation - the HPE700 Camaro. Based on the 2010 Chevy Camaro, the HPE700 will boast a borderline-insane 705 horsepower and 717 lb-ft of Torque. This power will propel the Camaro from 0 to 60 in only 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 201 mph.

Starting with a base 2010 Camaro SS with 6-speed transmission, Hennessey will drop in a tweaked version of GM’s new LS9 supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, then fit it with Hennessey’s Cam-Aero body kit, which includes a carbon fiber rear lip spoiler, carbon fiber front splitter, carbon fiber side rocker panels, front fascia with hideaway-look headlights and front billet grille, as well as a Corvette ZR1-inspired clear hood cover showing off the tuned LS9 engine. Hennessey then fits the Camaro with a complete suspension upgrade and lightweight 19-inch wheels, completing the HPE700 package. But that’s not all…

As an HPE700 buyer, you can also fit the already insanely powerful Camaro with a twin-turbo upgrade package, boosting the power anywhere from 850 to 1000 horsepower, for that “HOLY CRAP!” acceleration you’ve been looking for. Other options include fitting the HPE700 with the same $19,500 15-inch carbon brakes from the Corvette ZR1, adding a custom leather interior, and swapping the 6-speed for a 5-speed automatic transmission for those sub-10 second quarter mile runs. Buyers also get an included 1-day performance driving course at Lonestar Motorsports Park, which will be needed considering the performance ability of their new car.

The base HPE700 will start at $109,500, and if you choose to add the twin-turbo upgrade package for 1000 horsepower, you need to cough out an extra $30,000. If you order now, expect to pick it up around late Summer 2009. Only 24 HPE700s will be produced.

Spy Shots: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible spotted in Australia

Although the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible won’t be dropping its top anytime soon in the U.S., the convertible American muscle car was spotted in Australia just last week. Seeing the Chevrolet Camaro isn’t exactly a rare thing in Melbourne since GM’s Holden is doing all the majority of development work on the U.S. muscle car. Test mules are usually spotted all over town.

However, it was this Camaro Convertible which attracted a huge a crowd while it was undergoing testing last week - and that’s probably because GM has delayed any development on the right-hand-drive Camaros.

A U.S. bound Camaro Convertible is expected in 2011.

Barrett-Jackson 2009: First Retail Production 2010 Chevrolet Camaro goes for $350,000

One of the most highly anticipated vehicles to be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson this year was the first 2010 Chevy Camaro. There are very few instant classics these days, and this is one of them. There's still a month before actual series production of the car is slated to begin, but the winning bidder claimed the right to the very first retail production car that can be ordered in any color and with any options he chooses. Last year, it took exactly one-million dollars to win the hotly contested rights to the first 2009 Corvette ZR1, and this year $350,000 claimed the first edition of the newly-revived Camaro. Just as with last year's ZR1, all proceeds from this Camaro's sale will benefit the American Heart Association, which means that anything over the car's MSRP will be tax deductible by the winning bidder. It seems like eons since Chevy initially unveiled the Camaro concept in Detroit. Since then, we've seen so many camouflaged test mules and pre-production cars that we were starting to worry the design would feel too familiar before the Camaro hit dealerships. In reality, three years is a relatively short time for car to go from concept to reality, and from the reactions we saw on the show floor, the Camaro has nothing to worry about. Despite the focus on green cars, the Camaro was still one of the most popular vehicles at the Chevrolet display and we had to wait our turn to get a look inside. We are big fans of the overall design and love the retro look, but were somewhat disappointed with the overall feel and quality of materials used inside -- the 2010 Mustang easily trumps the Camaro in terms of interior quality. Still, the true test will come when we can fire up the LS3 V8 and take advantage of the 400 horsepower and six-speed transmission.

Corvette-Engined Formula Le Mans LMP2 Racer Makes Angry Noises

GM’s venerable small-block LS3 from the 2009 Corvette/2010 Camaro SS has found its way under the rear bodywork of a new Formula Le Mans prototype. Click below to see and hear the beast in action.

The Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) has announced a new European race series called Formula Le Mans. The star of the series is a new Corvette LS3 V8-sourced racecar. Built by Oreca, of Viper motorsport heritage, the new racer is a carbon-kevlar open-cockpit LMP2 that looks (and sounds) to be a promising entry.

Oreca released a promo video that makes the hairs on our arms stand on end. The LS3 mill sounds absolutely devilish is this configuration.

Chevy Camaro Production Delayed a Month and The Convertible is Back On

Production of the 2010 Chevy Camaro was supposed to start next month, but now it looks like production has been delayed a month until March 16th.

The one month delay is not due to supplier issues, since the issues with supplier Cadence Innovation have been solved with secondary suppliers.

The Camaro convertible had been put on hold but now it will be released at a later date as a 2011 model.

GM Announces Camaro HP Numbers, Convertible, Production Delays

GM announced to dealers today a one-month production delay for the 2010 Chevy Camaro. The good news is they also announced a model year for the Camaro Convertible and real horsepower numbers.

The delay of the production Chevy Camaro by one month comes with a mixed-bag of Camaro news. The reason for the delay has not yet been clarified, but it's apparently not due to supplier delays or the high demand for the SS model. The previously delayed Camaro convertible, which was shelved without a specific production start, has been attached to the 2011 model year.

Other news has filtered out of the call as well, notably the real horsepower figures are 426 HP for the LS3 V8 in the Camaro SS and 400 HP in the L99-equipped Camaro. If you're in the market you'll be happy to know pricing discounts will be available from the get-go (why not just change the pricing?). Finally, if you've already placed your Camaro order, GM is expecting to have all 10,000 pre-orders completed by sometime in October.

Hennessey 705hp HPE700 Camaro - ZR1 Meets 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Hennessey Performance Engineering based out of Texas (HPE) introduced the Corvette ZR1 to the new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and it’s a monster. This limited edition Camaro will sport 705 horsepower which matches the likings of other Hennessey projects such as the Godzilla 700 Nissan GT-R and others.

The new LS9 engine from the ZR1 in supercharged form will be used in this beast along with other components from the ZR1 such as the carbon ceramic breaks, HRE wheels and even the clear hood scoop so you can show off to your friends what you are really packing.

Believe it or not, this is supposed to be a packaged offered at your local Chevrolet dealership. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill bolt-ons, this is major work considering the price tag of $109,000.

Chevrolet Camaro delayed, but wait, good news too

First a little bad news: A reliable source over at Camaro5 has posted that production of the Chevrolet Camaro won’t start until March 16th. This makes it pretty tough for Chevy to come through on the original rumors that deliveries would start sometime in February.

Now the great news: The Camaro Convertible is back on. The convertible was originally expected in about the middle of this year, but cutbacks quickly put the project on hold. Now it seems the Camaro’s popularity put the project back in GM’s sights. But now we have to wait until 2011.

Extreme Performance Makeover Transforms the 2010 Camaro from Muscle Car to Super Car!

A bit of good news: Chevrolet receives 10,000 orders for Camaro

It seems we’ve got a lot of news about cutbacks and bailouts lately. Now we finally have something to get excited about as a cool car is doing well: 10,000 pre-orders have come in for the Chevrolet Camaro.

Back in October, Chevy had already received 6,000 orders in the first month the car was on sale. While that was impressive, those orders were mostly for the V8 cars. What worried some industry floks was would the car be able to go mainstream. But it seems the last few months have seen runs on the smaller engine. "We are getting a considerable amount of V6 orders," said Mark LaNeve, GM’s head of marketing and sales.

The entry-level V6 Chevrolet Camaro uses a 3.6-liter V6 unit producing 296bhp and 273lb ft of torque, while the range-topping SS will produce 416bhp from its 6.2-liter V8. Prices will start from $22,995 MSRP for the V-6 powered LS model, and $30,995 for the V-8 powered Camaro SS. Deliveries should begin in February.

GM Performance Parts To Offer $7,000 Body-In-White New Camaro

Do you want to build your very own Camaro GS Racer featured at this year’s SEMA show? GM Performance Parts has the answer for you with the new $7,000 2010 Chevy Camaro body-in-white.

Starting early next year, GM Performance Parts will begin offering the 2010 Chevy Camaro body-in-white in their catalog. Marketed towards the competition racer set, the 2010 Camaro body-in-white will save both time and money. The package includes an assembled body structure, including front fenders, hood, front fascia, grille, roof, doors, rear quarter panels, trunk lid, rear fascia, complete floorpan and chassis rails. The cost of the package will run you $7,000, a far cry from the up-level SS model that would see the removal of 90% of its original content.

The parts needed to complete the package will include a powertrain, fuel system, suspension, interior components, glass and safety equipment. GM Performance Parts offers many of these parts through its online catalog and with such a large assortment of crate engine options listed on the GM Performance Parts website, it’ll be interesting to see what some of the grassroots racers will shoehorn between the rails of their build-your-own muscle car. Our ideal setup would be either the 6.2-liter supercharged LS9 or the brutal ZZ572/720R drag unit with its 572 cu. in. and 720 HP and 685 lb-ft of brute force.

Grand Blanc, Mich. – Racers who want to slip into something more fashionable at the
track next year will find the 2010 Camaro is just their size. GM Performance Parts will offer body in white packages of the new Camaro starting in the first quarter of 2009. The basic package lists for $7,000 and includes an assembled body structure, including the front fenders, hood, front valance/grille header panel, roof, doors, rear quarters, trunk lid and rear valance. The structure also includes the complete floorpans and chassis rails.

Racer must fill out an online application to be eligible to purchase one. The form is available at www.gmperformanceparts.com. Bodies will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is no limit to the number an approved racing team can purchase.

“This is the easiest and most cost-effective way to build a race-ready new Camaro,” said Dr. Jamie Meyer, of GM Performance Parts. “We envision racers using these bodies for all types of competition, from Pro Street and Competition drag racing to road racing.” The body in white includes only a painted body shell and no additional components or materials. The bodies do not have vehicle identification numbers, so they may only be used as racing vehicles that will never be licensed for street driving.

Racers will add powertrain, fuel system, suspension, interior components and glass (or sanctioning body-approved alternative), and safety equipment, then go racing.

“For the racers who would strip down the entire car and replace most of the components with racing-spec parts, the body in white saves time and money,” said Dr. Meyer. “Drag racers, for example, won’t have to worry about swapping out for a solid axle – they can just bolt one up and go.”

2010 Chevy Camaro LS Shows Off Rallye Style Wheels

Apparently Disney World's Test Track at Epcot of all places took delivery of their 2010 Chevy Camaro LS and a forum-head over at Camaro5 snagged shots which display a sweet, retro-style set of rallye wheels.

The obvious throwback to the old school Camaro warms the car-guy cockles. We actually think this Camaro adds a certain degree of tough-guy attitude missing from the other Camaros. Now if it can be had with a stripe running around the nose, we'll be in hardcore Camaro fanboy heaven. Please Chevy, make it so. [Camaro5]

We first heard of the Ring Brothers back in 2006 when they brought their REACTOR Mustang to the ROUSH booth. That car was nothing less than stunning, and we've made sure to check out any of their custom creations since then. On display this year is the RAZOR Camaro that won the Goodguys Street Machine of the Year for 2008, making it the second year in a row that the Ring Brothers have earned the award. The RAZOR features numerous examples of the Ring Bro's custom billet components, a carbon fiber hood and rear deck lid, Budnik wheels, custom paintwork, and a GM ZL1 crate motor. Even if you're not a fan of the car or the styling, it's impossible to not appreciate the workmanship of the car. We've put together a gallery of high resolution photos below so you can inspect said workmanship for yourself.

You read about them earlier, but GM pulled out every joker it had in the Camaro deck today. One of them was bathed in yellow and filled with a host of GM Accessories options, like contrasting side sills and front spoiler, the hockey stick stripe package, and 21-inch wheels in machined aluminum with black accents. One thing we realized when getting up close and personal is that the inside of the Camaro is as dark as a coffin. It might not be a bad idea to splurge for the interior lighting package if you want to see who's in the car with you.
The Dale Jr. Camaro is something old and something new, with a biofuel V8 that's been tweaked for a little more horsepower, and the monster is shifted with a Hurst short-throw. Outside, gray-over-white goes will all sorts of stripes and emblems, whereas inside the car is black with orange stitching and gets a nice set of white center console gauges. And that ducktail dovetail spoiler? Straight out of '69. The car should come with an 8-track of Bryan Adams' Greatest Hits, which probably wouldn't sound too bad on the Boston Acoustics system.
The Camaro Black Concept is the car this blogger equated to pure badass one year ago, after driving the Camaro Convertible Concept. The blacked-out gloss exterior offset by a matte hood go perfectly with the red halo rings around the headlights. Frankly, we'd lower it even more over the 21-inch wheels, but we wouldn't touch the black interior with red interior lighting. We didn't expect GM to put the 6-cylinder in it, but based on the sound it made rolling by, it's not a problem. The Camaro got its first star turn in Transformers, and if Hollywood ever decides to remake The Car, this one is the star. Until then, you can check out the gallery of high-res photos below.
